PERCUTANEOUS ETHANOL INJECTION (PEI) -
GETTYSBURG, PA
PERCUTANEOUS ETHANOL INEJCTION (PEI)
Percutaneous Ethanol Injection (PEI) is the technique of injecting ethanol under ultrasound guidance into symptomatic thyroid cysts to create scar tissue and shrink the cysts as an alternative treatment to standard thyroid surgery. This treatment has been in use for many years and was pioneered at the Mayo Clinic as an alternative to surgery.
PEI ablation of metastatic thyroid cancer deposits in neck lymph nodes under ultrasound guidance is also performed in the office as an alternative to extensive surgery in many cases. This simple outpatient procedure can be a viable alternative to lymph node dissection surgery in many patients unable or unwilling to undergo surgical treatment of recurrent, residual or metastatic thyroid cancer.
